Airflow

Bobby and I recently bought a new Rainbow Vacuum Cleaner. This is our third one. I bought the first one while still single. My parents had a Rainbow and once you've seen how well it cleans it's hard to go with anything else.
Rainbows are expensive but with a cat and a dog in the house, it's an expense we are willing to pay. We're thinking this will be the last one we buy because either it will outlive us or we'll be too old to deal with getting a new one.
That's not the point, though. The point is that Brian, the very nice Rainbow salesman who came to the house last week, said something that stuck in my mind.
"Suction doesn't clean anything. Airflow is what allows cleaning," he said before demonstrating the concept.
We could go down a rabbit hole here discussing how different vacuum cleaners work and which is better, but let's not. I think we can all agree that airflow is needed in order for vacuums, along with many other machines, to work properly.
We need airflow too. We take well over 15,000 breaths each day. That's a lot of air flowing into our lungs daily. Again we have an opportunity to go down a rabbit hole. We could discuss all the processes happening in our bodies with each breath. That would be interesting, but this is not the place for those amazing medical details.
Rather, let me just get to the point already. Thinking about airflow made me think about wind, and wind often makes me think about the Holy Spirit.
"The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit." — John 3:8
When I try to do things on my own, I often end up like a vacuum cleaner without proper airflow. I'm working hard but accomplishing very little because I'm not letting the Holy Spirit's power flow through me.
"And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever, the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you." John 14:16-17
The airflow is there, we just have to be open to it, rather than block it. It's as easy as a small child asking for help. When we seek God's guidance, help, and power He always provides.
"Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. Do not quench the Spirit." 1 Thessalonians 5:16-19
"God knows what each one of us is dealing with. He knows our pressures. He knows our conflicts. And He has made a provision for each and every one of them. That provision is Himself in the person of the Holy Spirit, indwelling us and empowering us to respond rightly." Kay Arthur
